Migration Definitions

Migration:

The movement of people from one place to another.

 

South-South migration:

The movement of people from one country in the Southern hemisphere to another country in the Southern hemisphere.

South-North migration:

The movement of people from a country in the Southern hemisphere to a country in the Northern hemisphere.

​

Forced migration:

The movement of refugees or internally displaced people due to environmental disasters, famine, conflict, displacement, politics, or other issues to another location or region.
